Week 3 - Back in the saddle... so to speak

For week 3 of training, the health stayed good - the snow disappeared and the rain pretty much held off. Not bad conditions to really kick in the training. Managed to get out 5 times this week, which is a level of training I have never tried before. Sunday night - the body feels pretty tired, but no injuries to stop week 4 continuing in the same way!

The training plan I set myself was to hit 29 miles. Managed to total 35.

BMI this week: 25.63; Weight 12 stone 5 pounds (78.5 KGs) Still officially overweight.

The Song that got me through the toughest parts... the revived power ballad classic - Journey, Don't Stop Believin!!!
.
Will load up the iPod with some Survivor next week - Eye of the Tiger....

Training plan says 27 miles - mixed with speed work... Monday tomorrow - official rest day...until next weeks post........

Week 2 Wraps Up with a wimper

Today was the day that I got my training back together again. The ManFlu has pretty much gone, and I managed a tough 8 miles in an average time. Managed to create about ½ pint of snot as well – where does that all come from??

This means that of the 26 Miles I should have done as per the training plan – I have hit just 8. But all things considered, it could be worse. Looking forward to really getting into Week 3 training which the plans show will start on Tuesday (with Monday as a rest day). It’s gonna be a tough week, but I want to throw myself straight back into the mix – 14 weeks now until marathon day… 98 Days....

The plan for week 2 was a total of 26 miles - spread through the week. I managed 8.
The plan for week 3 is a total of 27 miles - I plan to hit all of those miles!!!

BMI this week: 26:02; Weight 12.5 Stone (79.5 KGs) Still officially overweight.
Weight taken again on the Wii Fit - Boxer style (in speedo's with the world's press watching on)

The Song that got me through the toughest parts: Motorcycle Emptiness – Manic Street Preachers.

Stuttering Start

So - I guess we have to call this week 2 almost complete, and ManFlu had laid me out for the week. My 16 week marathon training plan now looks more like a leaner, 14 week plan... and that was not by design!!

Still - hoping to feel better tomorrow (Sat 16th) and plan to get out for some miles tomorrow or Sunday.

Robin had built a training plan that lays out 5 runs per week - I hope the old legs, battered by 25 years of football, can keep up! Time will tell.

I hope to report back next week with a more positive message of good health and 20 plus miles.

Ian and Robin Do London

Hi All,

We have created this blog to enable us to share the pleasure and pain that we will be going through in the interests of charity to prepare and run the London Marathon on April 25th 2010.

We have set up a justgiving page -> http://www.justgiving.com/ian-and-robin-do-london
It would be great if you could help us reach our target of £2,000 for the charity Get Kids Going. This is a National charity which gives disabled children and young people - up to the age of 26 yrs - the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport.

We have dusted off a training plan, with personal goals of completing the marathon in under 4 hours. The training plans began on Monday of this week (4th Jan) and continue right up to the race day - Sunday 25th April.

Week 1 training has not gone to plan so far - Robin has been struck down with the flu for a couple of weeks and myself (Ian), whilst sneaking out on Tuesday before the snow struck Basingstoke for a quick 5.5 mile run, is also now laid up with the flu. So I think a combination of the outside weather, and a bit of sickness, week 1 is not the ideal start, but there are 16 weeks to go so we will pull it around!!

Please check in on this blog as we close in on the marathon - we will try to post progress and training stories.

I have just been on Wii FIT and have been told that with a BMI of 28, I am officially overweight (13 stone) so I will also track my Wii progress - see if I can shed some of that Christmas extravagance and get close to a BMI of 25.
